The Denver Post is seeking a creative, energetic, digitally-savvy reporter for The Denver Post's NHL/Avalanche beat. We are looking for a person who has a solid knowledge of hockey, can break news, do the smart follow ups and also deliver compelling enterprise. S/he would excel on social media, excel in front of a camera, be a great team player and keep ahead of the competition, both locally and nationally. Ready to make the jump? Send a resume, cover letter and 4-6 published articles to PostReporterHire(at)denverpost.com with "Hockey Reporter: (Your Name)" in the subject line. We will only consider candidates who apply to that email address.

    Essential functions:

    • Develop news sources and look for and create story ideas in coordination with assignment editors.
    • Research, observe and conduct interviews over the telephone and in person to gather pertinent information for news stories.
    • Interact with the public in a professional manner.
    • Organize information and write a clear, concise, interesting and gramatically correct story while meeting deadlines.
    • Be able to seek out and report news for immediate publication on The Post's digital platforms or for print publications.
    • Discuss story formulation with editors and edit or rewrite stories, as necessary
    • Develop sources and check with them on a regular basis to break exclusive news
    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • Experience using video reporting skills (or a willingness to learn)
    • Demonstrated proficiency with social media tools
    • Strong reporting and writing skills
    • Ability to multi-task and work quickly to meet deadlines
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle to travel to report events
