I am interested in how badly WVU beats Maryland. Just saw a stat a minute ago (not sure if it's true)...Geno Smith has 700+ yards in 2 games. Maryland's entire offense has 700+ yards in 3 games.

Could get fugly.

The weekends that look like dog matchups are usually when upsets come rolling in. That said, there has yet to be a weekend that had more than a couple of appealing games on the front end. Attendance is taking a hit most everywhere as fans start to skip the Alpo shoved in front of them. The sport as a whole needs to step up.

To be fair, it also happens to be the largest university in the University of Louisiana system (by a considerable margin over the other "UL"). The university also originally changed its name (successfully) in 1984, but the state legislature nullified the name change.

The animosity about the name change stems from the notion that the "pro-LSU" legislature blocked the original name change because of a perceived threat to LSU's position as the flagship school in the state (a position I've never heard anyone at USL/ULL say they wanted to grab from LSU).

As I once wrote (back when people like you were poking fun at the name change ;D ), it's really no different than UT in Austin, UT in Knoxville, LSU in Baton Rouge, UM in Ann Arbor or any other university-city name school dropping the city name.

ONe more thread jack UT-Chattanooga is doing its damnedest to go in the other direction -- and drop the "UT" part and just be called Chattanooga.

Just as Charlotte has done with dropping the UNC. UNC Asheville no longer wants to be known as UNCA under any circumstances. Just Asheville on the second reference. Mostly becuase everybody mistakenly puts a hyphen in UNC-Asheville.

Anyway, good FCS game this week at Northern Iowa heads to Youngstown State.
