One of my golden rules is "Commerce trumps morality all the time." Tennessee used to have a blue law on the books banning alcohol sales until noon. Well that was a problem when the Titans came to town and their kick times were noon. So they cut out a 45 mile circle around Nashville where you could start boozing ahead of the game.

Plus, at least theoretically, Rutgers gets the B1G into the NYC teevee market.

Or it gives them the excuse to hold the basketball tourneys in MSG or Barclays a couple times a decade.

Pretty sure the La-Z-Boy spot is taken.

Today is the first Friday that the downtown establishment has been open as a sports book and the lunch crowd for the windows was 30-deep, while about 30 horse betting terminals sat empty. And on the five odds screens (not a Vegas-style wall but just five fairly large flatscreens), the games weren't rotating so you had to confirm many spreads with the tellers. I'm sure the operators (Caesars, in this case) will get it right eventually but it's fascinating/frustrating to see a wagering operation in its infancy.

And not to show my age, but the last time I was in a sports book there were signs all over prohibiting cell phones. Today, I was texting in line.

    My first official plays:
    Marshall +12.5
    Army +22
    Syracuse ML +105
    Nebraska -4
    Clemson -16.5

But no mobile app here, so I'll have to find a way to get back downtown in order to play the night college games and then NFL. First world problems.

They don't have all of the games already? That's one thing I liked about football season was that, unlike basketball season, they had the lines up by midweek and I didn't have to go down to the casino the day of the game to bet.

Oh, they do have all the lines up. I didn't have the sheckels to bet everything I wanted at once, haha.

LOL ... well, that's a "you" problem then.

And it is kind of like being a kid in a candy store, isn't it?
"I'll take one Alabama and one LSU -- OOH! A Clemson at only minus-17! I want it!"

Yes, yes it is. Perhaps it's best they don't have the floor-to-ceiling odds boards yet because people here would be too mesmerized to actually bet.

So Texas is getting 6.5 points at home, with the better coach (in my opinion) and the better quarterback (in my opinion). I feel like I'm walking into a trap.

What's sick is that I'm sure there is a lot of Texas money that bet that line DOWN.
