Caveat emptor. I profess to know almost nothing about BCS football, but fourth-seeded and Big Sky champ Sac State getting nine at home to South Dakota State? The Hornets beat No. 5 Montana on the road, haven't lost since losing by 12 to Cal, and are ranked one spot lower than the Jackrabbits in the latest poll.

I do remember the days when powerhouse North Dakota State would come out to California and crush good UC Davis squads when they were D-II, but what is Vegas seeing about a team that finished fourth in its own league that I'm not?

I think Utah will travel well down I-15.

I thought the SEC might be a soft ticket, since Bama fans don’t have much optimism and Georgia fans almost certainly have two playoff games to plan for. But the get in price on Seat Geek is more than $450. Those Dawgs are out for blood.

The only conference-championship games that sell out are the SEC's and Big 10's, helped in a large part because Atlanta and Indianapolis are within easy driving distance of almost every possible participant. I'm not driving from Eugene (870 miles) to Vegas; SLC is only 470 but winter driving conditions play a big factor in discouraging people from making that drive.

The Pac-12 and the other leagues should just give the higher seed home field and call it good; the top seed has earned it. The Pac-12 did this early in its championship-game cycle and the game drew very well.

This is the first time the game is in Las Vegas and it will be interesting to see how big the crowd will be.

I'm guessing very small and pro-Utah. Vegas is at least close to southern Utah, if not SLC. If Duck fans are going to travel for a game they'll wait for the possibility of the Rose Bowl.

Who's on the ref crew for Houston Cincy and which one of them(s) just had envelopes of cash put in their mailboxes?

It did not draw in Santa Clara, that's for sure.

Most certainly. But you can make it a weekend getaway in Vegas. Lot more options than in the Bay Area.
