All times Eastern. Lines take off the ESPN odds page:

Alabama, Oregon and Baylor all have open dates, so not a ton at stake this week BCS-wise, with the exception of the game in Tallahassee. Here's the best of the rest ...

    Thursday

Arizona State (-11.5) at Washington State, 10:30 p.m., ESPN

    Friday

    USC (+5) at Oregon State, 9 p.m., ESPN2

    Saturday

Ohio State (-30.5) at Purdue, noon, Big Ten Network

Mississippi State (+13) at South Carolina, 12:21 p.m., SEC Network

    Clemson (-16.5) at Virginia, 3:30 p.m., ESPN

Michigan (+4.5) at Michigan State, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Georgia (-2.5) vs. Florida (at Jacksonville), 3:30 p.m., CBS

Kansas (+28) at Texas, 3:30 p.m., Longhorn Network

    Auburn (-9.5) at Arkansas, 6 p.m., ESPN2

    Tennessee (+12.5) at Missouri, 7 p.m., ESPN

Oklahoma State (+1.5) at Texas Tech, 7 p.m., Fox

Pittsburgh (+10) at Georgia Tech, 7 p.m., ESPNU

Miami (+21.5) at Florida State, 8 p.m., ABC

Nevada (+20.5) at Fresno State, 10:30 p.m., ESPNU

FWIW: The Miami @ FSU line seems obscenely high.

Only way Purdue can stay within 30 of Buckeyes is if they take their foot off the gas pedal. Last week makes me think that's not happening.

God help me, I kinda like that +12.5 the Vols are carrying.

And wow, Miami +21.5 is not a typo. I mean, sure, they've looked mediocre in beating Wake Forest and UNC, but still.

Yeah, my initial reaction was that I don't watch enough college football to know for sure, but Miami +21.5 looks like free money sitting on the table.

FSU is going to dumptruck Miami. Gonna be ugly.

Florida State has been just dominating people. Not just Clemson. Maryland, NC State, Pitt, whomever. If they get rolling, it tends to snowball, so Miami damn well better come prepared to play from the opening whistle. I don't know that Miami has the depth in the secondary to hang with FSU and Winston hasn't had a bad turnover game yet.

Few things in sports could be more dreadful than a Halloween night game in Pullman, Washington. Maybe they caught a break with the weather. Supposed to be 33F with only a slight chance of rain. I've seen snow in eastern Washington and and before Halloween. And Pullman might be the most remote place on earth for a major university. Even Laramie, Wyoming, is a couple of hours from Denver.

Wimp Sanderson once said of Lubbock: "It so far out in the middle of nowhere, they don't get the Sunday paper until Wednesday."

Not counting Hawaii, I wonder which FBS school is farthest from its closest neighbor.

Pullman is only eight miles from an FBS school.

    (I guess the Vandals qualify)

Food for thought: Miami has beaten FSU nine times since 1983 when Noles entered the game undefeated (and had played at least four games).

Yeah. Here's an FBS school map:

From the looks of things, Boise State, Minnesota, UNLV, New Mexico and Texas Tech are the most-isolated.
