Not sure if a Tuesday night game counts in week 9 or week 10 but Central Michigan and Western Michigan are going at it on ESPN 2. WMU's best player was just ejected from the game for kicking a CMU player and Western had to call a timeout because he was creating such a disturbance on the sideline after the ejection. They had to send the kid to the locker room, which isn't required when a player is ejected.

    7-0 Western right now.

The fighting Shit and Piss are playing Central... it won't last... (says the man sitting at his desk wearing a WMU sweatshirt by sheer coincedence)

This has been quite entertaining over the last 8 minutes of this game. Central's up by 10 when Western scores to cut it to three. Central QB fumbles the ball, Western recovers, and two plays later score again to go up, 31-27. Central airs it out down the field, and with a PI call on the Broncos, Central is on the WMU 1 with :12 left and the refs don't even know if the QB crossed the plane for the score.

I fucking hate how the MAC prostitutes itself for national TV. It's embarrassing and it does precious little for the conference to gain any national respect.

If anything, the MAC's, Sun Belt's and C-USA's of the world -- who lay down with their legs spread any night one of the 90 ESPN nets has a programming hole -- make themselves look more desperate in the national perception by playing all through the week.

Worse for the MAC, they've tried to put so many eggs in their basket to get this football "respect" that's never forthcoming that they've ruined their real golden goose -- men's basketball.

The MAC was basically the 90s version of the Missouri Valley Conference, now they've become next to irrevelant in men's basketball because so many resources have been committed to this pipe dream of making BCS football work. The K-Zoo paper did a story on this a year or two ago.

Unlike the Valley, the MAC schools don't have anything like the 10,000-plus arenas and widespread fan support to get back what it had in the 90s with basketball. Other than an oddball team coming up from the woodwork once in a blue moon, they've probably fucked up any hope of regaining what they once had in hoops.

Ball State '89-'90, Eastern Michigan '91, Miami '95, Eastern Michigan '96, Western Michigan '98, Miami '99, Kent State '02 and Central Michigan '03 all weep for the present. Eff you Rick Chryst.

I think what Bubbs is saying is that the MAC needs some new leadership ... it needs someone like a Ned Yost.

At least the hoop tourney isn't at the SeaGate Center or Batelle Hall anymore.
And bringing UCF and Temple into the league as football members has been a fantastic move.
