    Star Tribune is hiring a reporter to join our college sports reporting team with emphasis on coverage of the University of Minnesota football beat.This reporter will be responsible for full-time coverage of all aspects of Gophers football both in print and digital.

    Topics on this beat will include preseason camp, regular-season and postseason games, recruiting, daily breaking news, business, contractual and academic matters, Title IX compliance issues, features and provocative enterprise, profiles, notes, analysis, off-field news, blogs, videos and podcasts.

    This reporter will also help with coverage of other teams and events at the university throughout the year, including non-revenue sports, NCAA tournaments hosted by the school and, where appropriate, help with any investigations into the athletic department programs.

    More specifically, this reporter will be expected to:

    • Provide timely and competitive coverage from a beat that regularly produces breaking news.
    • Have experience covering major college sports.
    • Show a history of breaking news and a proven ability to develop sources.
    • Possess broad knowledge of and interest in college sports and the Big Ten.
    • Quickly assess spot news and adapt to fast-breaking news situations.
    • Have extensive experience in digital reporting and social media promotion.
    • Create digital content distinctly different from the print pages.

    No, it doesn't appear to be.

    Vikings beat reporter is leaving the paper to move closer to family. Former Gophers beat reporter is now a sports enterprise reporter at the paper.

    This job was filled by Randy Johnson, who covered Penn State in the 1990s and was a page designer for the Star Tribune until moving over to the sports desk.
