Here are the “top” games and lines for Week 12. All points spreads via Vegas Insider and all times Eastern.

(Other than Notre Dame-Syracuse and maybe Iowa State-Texas, this is a garbage week)

Miami, Ohio (+6.5) at Northern Illinois, 8 p.m., ESPNU

    Thursday

    Tulane (+10.5) at Houston, 8 p.m., ESPN

    Saturday

Ohio State (-17) at Maryland, noon, ABC

Michigan State (-1.5) at Nebraska, noon, Fox

    Utah (-7) at Colorado, 1:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network

West Virginia (-5) at Oklahoma State, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Syracuse (+9.5) vs. Notre Dame (at Yankee Stadium), 2:30 p.m., NBC

    Missouri (-5.5) at Tennessee, 3:30 p.m., CBS

    USC (-3.5) at UCLA, 3:30 p.m., Fox

Miami (-3.5) at Virginia Tech, 3:30 p.m., ESPN

Wisconsin (+6) at Purdue, 3:30 p.m., Big Ten Network

Northwestern (-3) at Minnesota, 3:30 p.m., Big Ten Network

Virginia (+6.5) at Georgia Tech, 3:30 p.m., Fox Sports Net

    Duke (+27.5) at Clemson, 7 p.m., ESPN

UAB at Texas A&M, 7 p.m., ESPN2 — no line yet due to UAB QB injury

    Stanford (-2) at California, 7:30 p.m., Pac-12 Network

Cincinnati (+7.5) at Central Florida, 8 p.m., ABC

Iowa State (+3) at Texas, 8 p.m., Longhorn Network

Arizona (+10) at Washington State, 10:30 p.m., ESPN

Garbage week? It’s the one I absolutely dread every season now, but especially this year where both my schools badly need the win.

Ain’t no such thing as a garbage week when Pitt can clinch the coastal.

Interesting Big Ten slate for investment purposes. Does Ohio State blow out Maryland while half the coaching staff is already looking at Michigan? Northwestern lay an egg at Minny with a title game spot already locked up?

Wisconsin getting 6 at an inconsistent Purdue team seems kinda good.

Good week to get house and yardwork and some early Christmas shopping done to stash some brownie points away for better weeks down the road.

Tulane, suddenly hot, goes against Houston, suddenly cold. The winner stands an excellent chance of being the sacrificial lamb to UCF in the AAC championship.

Tulane is 5-5, but just a few plays away from 8-2 with close losses to decent Wake and UAB teams.

If the Les Miles stuff at Kansas is a smokescreen, then Willie Fritz is really high on my wish list.

That’s the profile. Someone winning at a place that never wins. Both sides (Fritz and KU) should be eager to make this happen.

Yep, checks about every box. Won at multiple stops. KC area native. Worked in and has connections in all of KU's primary recruiting bases, including Kansas and Texas high schools, Kansas and Texas Jucos and Louisiana.

Really worked out for KU when they hired Turner Gill.

Biggest difference is Gill had one good season before KU hired him. Fritz has done it on multiple levels for 20 years.
