The only possible case is that Duke made him wear the shoes. Duke could sue Nike. That actually might happen, especially if Williamson says he's not playing any more.

Zion would have to be thecone to sue unless Duke sues Nike in Zion’s behalf and paid out Zion a portion of the settlement.

Failure to inspect the shoes? They owed a duty to Zion to get shoes that were made well, not in sweat shops by 10 year olds.

What if Zion is so big and fast, so much faster and quicker than other players his size, that the shoe was never designed for that stress?

This is a crazy thing to wrap your head around, but Zion is different.

Did he wear the same pair all year?

Duke did make him wear Nikes. Nike has a contract with Duke and Mike K to,outfit the team. It’s an exclusive contract. Zion couldn’t wear Puma or Adidas if he wanted to

A former Virginia player who is not built like Williamson.

Certainly the video does not indicate the shoe was put under unearthly stress. It appeared to be a reasonably normal play.

Duke and Mike will defend Nike no matter what happened.

That could open up another can of worms if Duke sued Nike and claimed they lost a tangible amount of value from Zion sitting out. The NCAA’s whole amateurism argument is that athletes have zero value beyond a scholarship (which we know is not true). If Duke says they lost, say, $2 million from this, they would then be admitting that players have value.

Sure he could, although it would cause quite the uproar. Zion doesn’t (supposedly) get paid a penny for wearing the shoes. Unless he wants a Nike contract later, why should he care about Duke and Nike’s contract? He’s an “amateur student-athlete.”

Michael Jordan’s kid caused a big uproar when he decided to wear Air Jordans and Central Florida lost its Adidas deal.

Williamson better make sure every doctor he sees had no connection to Duke. And duke better pay every bill, without question.

    Coach wants another title
