    Apply for the new job and see what happens from there. No sense in worrying about everything else until you actually get an interview.

    In the least, perhaps the offer of the job you don't want will help you improve your financial situation with the job you have.

    Nothing says you can't apply now, and consider your options later.
    Throw your name in the loop and spend a week or two considering it. Don't wait or you won't have anything to consider :)

    Someone in journalism actually said this with a straight face? The money ain't all that good and the hours are even worse.

    I don't mean that as a reason to quit. But if that's what it's REALLY all about in a job, I figure most of us could do a lot better.
