This is a good one, but it's certainly nothing your going to get lit on:

    Camp Grenada

    1 1/2 oz Campari
    1/2 oz grenadine syrup
    2 oz grapefruit juice
    1 oz pineapple juice
    3 oz chilled 7-Up

Shake Campari, greandine, gradefruit and pineapple, and strain into an ice-filled collins glass.
Add 7-up and garnish with fruit.

I very rarely drink Campari, but I stayed with a guy in Africa who was an avid drinker of it. I developed a real fondness for it.
However, it is a bitters, so it's always going to be bitter. Just using it with fruit juice or even ginger ale can cut through some of the bitterness.

Take a look at the guy's menu: www.sablechicago.com/files/pdf/media_20.pdf it's incredible.

The trend in cocktails mirrors what is going on in the culinary world -- using fresh, seasonal, local ingredients. They create a well balanced flavor experience.

A bartender does not create drinks, he makes them. A mixologist comes up with them. It's a big difference.

Some of the craft cocktails I've enjoyed are just too difficult to make at home, but here's a whiskey smash:

A local place, Maude's Liquor Bar makes a good one: http://www.maudesliquorbar.com/drinks.png

    Here's a recipe: http://www.makersmark.com/recipes/75-whisky-smash

I made mine using the same Irish Whiskey used at Del Posto in New York.

Is a mojito really a girl drink? I sure hope not, but I'm starting to get a little self-conscious.

The word 'mixologist' has been around a long time - since at least the middle of the 19th century. And has long been meant as a kind of jumped-up goof. Like calling a barber "a tonsorial artist."

That may be changing, but there's a reason folks like BR feel the word is a little twee.

The title should be earned. Not every hipster bartender has earned the right to it.

But, a bar or restaurant that employes a talented mixologist is worth a visit.

Your use of the Oxford comma in the thread title makes me want to begin drinking heavily.

I am not, but I was introduced to the drink in Miami.
