  2. A couple things:

    1. Wiederer is a really good storyteller and can write his ass off. Can't believe somebody hasn't scooped him up.

    2. That Web story looks terrific. Doesn't look like a newspaper's Web site. It actually looks like a Web site. Is that kind of thing really that difficult for other, bigger places to replicate?

Ironically, the Des Moines Register has done the same similar on-line layout this morning on a story about a good friend of mine. The other irony is that the writer of the series is a great friend well.

Neither of those things is ironic, D-3 Fan.

They're both coincidences. Nothing ironic about them.

    ^ that.

Irony and coincidence are often confused.

If you wished your boss died in a car wreck and he does but crashes into you and kills you in the process, that's ironic.

If you wished he died in a car wreck and he slipped and fell on the steps, that's coincidence (unless you pushed him then it's attempted murder).

This "Black Mamba of Beach Bocce" thing won't be an issue in College Park, Md., when he visits, I'm sure.

I thought both stories that have been posted were very good.

The writer certainly made good use of the access he got. Good stuff from the daughters, etc.

George Carlin explained coincidence v irony very well in Brain Droppings.
