    There's a difference between actively courting racists, an angle Trump has been working harder than any other candidate, and being a racist. Trump is just being cynical and playing the people who make up the GOP "base" (primarily ignorant, uneducated white people) for the idiots they are.

    Once they're here, yes.

    Getting here illegally is a misdemeanor, or an administrative violation, akin to someone saying "fuck" on over-the-air television.

    But simply being here, regardless of how you got here, is not illegal in any way, shape or form.

    Let's say you arrive here on a 90-day visa. You have entered the country legally.

    Let's say on day 91 you are still here without having made any attempt to change your status. At that time you begin to accrue unlawful presence. We may be nitpicking semantics here, but to me "unlawful" = illegal.
