    I'm sure you think that's pretty damning. It's not. Even if the rate of Cat 3 (or worse) hurricanes is at what we think to be its historical norm (0.8 per year), then the probability of 6 (or more) such events in 7 years is about 0.33. Here's the formula for calculating it ...

    1 - Σ(λ^k*e^λ/k!)

    with λ = 5.6 and k = 6

    Because anecdotal evidence trumps everything ... it's in the mid-50s and sunny here in the northern panhandle of Idaho. On Feb. 8. No sign of the huge snowpiles from early January.

    It's enough to make someone break out the 5-wood and take a few practice swings. I swear the dead dandelion head went 200 yards!
