As for Crawford, I'm not sure how serious they were in bidding for him. The Boston Globe's beat reporter (his name escapes me) said there was a lot of gamesmanship going on between Boston and NY (hence, the Sox's courtship of Rivera), but they were basically driving up prices on each other.

This is why baseball needs a salary cap.

I'm curious why Lee didn't wait to announce this in a one-hour made-for-TV special "The Decision".

He may be a redneck, but apparantly he's not an egocentric bubbleboy.

Lincecum? Cain? Sanchez? Bumgardner? How quickly we forget!

I guess the WWL forgot the footage of Lee giving in to Renteria during Game 5 during the coronation?

on a positive note, I tip my hat to Lee for taking less money to go somewhere other than the Yankees or Red Sox. If Donald Fehr was still around he'd try to void the contract and make him sign with the highest bidder for the good of the union.

I think you're thinking of Peter Abraham.

Since the Indians aren't a major league team anymore, I root for the Yankees to get fucked. Good job, Cliff Lee!

So who is the No. 1 starter - Halladay or Lee?

As long as they stick with the "make your best pitcher the No. 1 starter" theory, it's Halladay.

You can't even pray for rain with that rotation.
