Bingo. There are great players making $X and there are crap players making exactly the same amount, and if the people evaluating your talent aren't able to differentiate which players deserve to belong at which end of that range, you are spinning your wheels. Some teams just try to make this more complicated than it is.

Why didn't the author of this article mention Lewis' book?

Do you think teams magically realized that running backs were a poor value to draft with an early pick, or do you think the accumulation of decades worth of performance data may have helped them figure that out?

Whatever Dick. "Analytics" is a catch word that people throw around recently.

Nothing has changed except for the buzzwords.

Do you think the NFL game in the 2010s is just like the one played in the 1980s?

    Wait? So, something changed?

    I wonder why.

I have invented a stat. It's called "Quality Run." If you run for more than 5 yards, it's a Quality Run.

You should have to break a tackle to be awarded a Quality Run.

Stop overcomplicating an easy game like NFL-level football.

You're right. If a guy is adept at breaking tackles, you'll know that just from watching the game.
