Four of us in the office are heading to Cleveland late next week for Marine Week, and I'm looking for bars to hit when we're off the clock. We're staying at the Hampton Inn on East 9th Street. Anything within walking distance? Cool place, locals place, hole-in-the-wall place?

    Thanks.

I work right next door to the Hampton, but unfortunately don't do much drinking around here. Not sure of anything great real close. But within walking distance (3/4 mile or less) are the Warehouse District and E. 4th, as well as the areas around Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena and the new casino. You're actually in a great central spot.

TSP should chime in here soon, as those are all his stomping grounds. Winking Lizard on Huron is a solid sports bar with good wings. Warehouse District offers some more upscale bars/restaurants (and more clubby places I think, and the occasional shooting), and E. 4th is more high end with some fantastic restaurants (Greenhouse Tavern, Lola, Saigon, Zocalo). Corner Alley is a bar/bowling alley that is pretty nice. Flannery's Pub on Prospect is solid.

Don't really have a hole-in-the-wall place around here to recommend.

Not walkable, but probably the hottest area of late are the bars/breweries on W. 25th by the Westside Market (Great Lakes Brewery, Bier Market and Market Garden Brewery).

That's the overview, and hopefully some more locals who get out more than I do can add more specific recommendations. Personally, I like Winking Lizard, Flannery's and Market Garden.

I love the Winking Lizard, and got a shirt from there for Moddy when the outing was in Cleveland a couple years ago.

I've been told by my father-in-law that Mallorca is a great place to eat. Is this still true?

I remember going to the Barley House and the Blind Pig and not having a terrible time.

Big fan of Great Lakes Brewery and Bier Market. Try the Commodore Perry and the Lake Erie Monster at Great Lakes if you're into big ass hoppy beers like I am.

If you need a Sunday brunch spot, go to the Touch Supper Club. Awesome bloody mary bar and really good food.

the one place, Blind Pig maybe, had a big-ass Plinko board in the back. Just like the one on Price is Right.

Blind Pig usually has good live music too. Been there a few times.

The Blind Pig in Champaign was a happening place with live music when I moved there in '97. Drank many an Anchor Steam on tap and Bushmills by the barrel. My liver protested.

Yup. Decent band when I was there.

If see Gary Miller at the bar, run away...and make sure you have an umbrella once you get outside.
