They mentioned this on the YES telecast of Yanks-White Sox tonight (FYI: ESPN was blacked out in NY so I was forced to listen to Michael Kay).

Clete was a great defensive third baseman and a very big part of the Yankees early '60s World Series teams.
Overshadowed his whole career by some third baseman in Baltimore.

    RIP Clete

Anyone ever been to the Hamburger Hall of Fame Clete used to own in Cooperstown?

    RIP.

Fuck, this makes me sad. Clete talked to my HS team when i was 15 and gave me one of my favorite compliments ever. Such a class act. A sad day for baseball.

When I was a kid (and a baseball fan) I used to think he had one of the coolest names ever. RIP, Clete.

Anyone think they should retire #6 twice, once for Boyer & once for Torre?

I thought so too. It struck me when I was young that his baseball shoes would be known as Clete's cleats.

    RIP.
