I'd like to see Alabama record ATS in these games against ranked opponents when they are favored by 6-10 or so. It seems like they typically way outperform the spread.

This is Clemson's game to lose. The Tigers aren't losing. (Coker's already got a ring, anyway).

Not sure about that, but these are the point spreads and results for Alabama's last 3 national title game appearances:

    2010 vs. Texas .... favored by 3.5 .... won by 16
    2012 vs. LSU .... favored by 2.5 .... won by 21
    2013 vs. Notre Dame ... favored by 9.5 .... won by 28

Alabama vs. ranked teams this year ...

    vs. No. 20 Wisconsin …. favored by 12.5 … won by 18
vs. No. 15 Ole Miss …. favored by 8.5 .… LOST
    at No. 8 Georgia …. 2-point underdog .… won by 28
    at No. 9 Texas A&M …. favored by 4 …. won by 18
    vs. No. 2 LSU …. favored by 6.5 …. won by 14
at No. 17 Miss. State …. favored by 8 … won by 25
    vs. No. 18 Florida …. favored by 17.5 …. won by 14
vs. No. 3 Michigan State …. favored by 10 .... won by 38

Failed to cover once and lost outright once. Covered the spread the other six times, four times by at least two touchdowns.

I've read two different analyses involving former NFL GMs who say Clemson is more talented than any team Alabama has played in a national championship game of recent vintage. Secondly, Watson's of the type of spread quarterback that typically has given Alabama's defenses trouble, and he's arguably better than any who've beaten them. Plus, Saban doesn't have his usual month of preparation. This may be my heart talking, but I don't think Clemson's going to be a pushover here. I can definitely see Clemson staying in it/winning.
