Sorry if this is s d_b, but just got word from a friend who was laid off today as part of a substantial national layoff by ClearChannel.

    Sigh.

I've heard the meetings will start at 1 p.m.

They're using the inauguration as a cover in an attempt to avoid news coverage.

I have a few friends who work for Clear Channel. While today is a happy day for me, I can't help but worry for them.

Hell, don't expect the Mittster to take the hit.

The two friends of mine in the home of the U. Of Podunk learned this morning. Maybe O'Bama will bail them out somehow. ;)

Seeing the fact that Clearchannel radio stations basically play the same 10 songs every hour, I'm surprised they're any employees left to cut.

If that's true, and I have no doubt that it is, Clear Channel is an even lower form of scum that I already thought they were.

Not completely surprising since Clear Channel sold parts of their company off in the last couple of years. They haven't been doing well for awhile. They want to be this local/national conglomerate and it doesn't work. If they want to think they're national stations, that's fine, but in radio, much like print, local is the new thing.

And, Bubbler, Clear Channel is the lowest form of scum.

The radio-info.com message boards have been impossible to access today.

Guess now I know why ...

Edit -- the WSJ apparently had this on Friday:

I heard Big Steve say something about the forthcoming layoffs Friday morning on KOA.

Is there a radio equivalent to SportsJournalists.com?

Allaccess.com has news about the radio industry. I don't know about message boards. I usually only look at their job listings.
