There is NO WAY Vinny, 878 years old and slightly more mobile than Drew Bledsoe, should have been starting behind that o-line. And Bollinger would have started the last several games for Minnesota if he didn't get hurt. He's not a long-term starter, don't get me wrong, but that team had nothing to gain by going to Vinny. That wasn't a 9-7 team needing a veteran presence at QB to make the playoffs.

'Slightly more mobile than Drew Bledsoe.' Classic!

And yeah, Vinny had almost nothing left, and operating behind an O-line missing two starters was not the best place for him.

And Curtis Martin has a bone-on-bone condition in his knee partly because he was overworked by Edwards for almost five seasons. At the very least, he should've been placed on IR four games into the 2005 season, not with four games left.

And as for the Shanahan complaint, that one is valid. Unfortunately, there have been more important matters to talk about in Denver re the Broncos, due to a tragic, senseless murder.

But Shanahan's clock management in OT was highly questionable as well. The Broncos twice went for deep balls that were incomplete when all they needed to do was keep the clock running and the chains moving, because a tie for them was as good as a win.

You mean the same Illini fans who hold a grudge against Bruce Pearl more than 20 years after the fact? Those same fans? Yeah, they would be the ones.

    1. Yeah, if only Herm had pumped up Brooks Bollinger more, he could have saved the season.
    2. Yeah, it's Herm's fault that Curtis Martin wore out once he got past the age of 31, as do 99 percent of the backs in the league.
    3. Yeah, the fact that his holder and kicker made a great, clutch play to get the team into the playoffs is an example of luck. It couldn't possibly be good coaching or just plain good execution.
    4. Yeah, Herm could be 0 for 6 in making the playoffs, except that he's not. He's 4 for 6.

    Nonsense. Just nonsense.

    What's the over/under on Johnson's carries against the Colts? 35? 40?

Some where, Earl Campbell is saying "Retire while you can still walk, Larry!"

    Taking your points in order:

    1. Herm didn't even try to save the 2005 season. Rather than game-planning or scanning the waiver wire, he spent 1 1/2 to 2 hours almost everyday going off the record in the hallway outside the pressroom, throwing everyone under the bus and campaigning for a contract extension.
    2. Herm underutilized LaMont Jordan big-time and rode Curtis Martin into the ground. Especially in 2004. Counting playoffs, Curtis had 457 touches that season as a 31-year-old. That's unconscionable, especially with Jordan also on the roster. Hope you're listening, Larry Johnson.
    3. Your point is valid. However, the Jets wouldn't have needed such heroics if they could have beaten a 2-12 Buffalo team in the home finale the week before. How did the 2006 non-Herm Jets do against a 2-13 team in the regular-season finale at home with a playoff berth on the line? Oh, yeah, they never trailed.
    4. I'll note that he needed to back into the playoffs in 2004 after a 5-0 start turned into a 5-6 finish. Well done, Herm. Keep up the good work. ::)

    Suburbanite! Yeah!

What amazes me is there's a guy with a Jets fan handle still defending Herm.

I'll take the under. You're giving Herm too much credit.

No. He means the Bill Self who brought in the talent that Bruce Weber piggybacked to the NCAA title game. The same Bill Self who is pilfering Chicago's top talent from 10 hours away. That's the Bill Self he's talking about.

I think it's only been 16 or 17 years for the Pearl grudge.

I think there are longer grudges. LT the Terrible probably knows what they are. He recalls an NCAA tournament loss from 1988 that should be forgotten.
