If you can't dig up a way to apply, you're not ready for a big-city beat.

I'm sure just doing that will land the future beat reporter the job.

I was merely addressing the poster's question. I didn't realize that was so offensive to you.

Well, the ones sitting on message boards are clearly the best in the business.

You may not be one of them, but some of the very best in this business are on THIS board.

Trent is very good and the chance to be part of a two-person beat with him is worth the coveted Moddy Seal. The baseball beat is tough work anywhere but that doesn't mean this isn't a very good gig.

Trent, I just submitted my application on here. Hope to hear from you. Thanks and good luck.

Seems like management should hire a sports editor before hiring a beat writer.

You'd think. But this could be like the Browns whereas they hire the coach before the GM. This could go writer/editor. But who knows? With Reds beat writers, they've had luck. With SEs, not so much.

Position has been filled, per an email I received about my application. Anyone know if the Reds beat is still open?

Oops, I meant the editor's position, not the Reds beat reporter

Gannett portal has the Reds job still listed, so I'm guessing the position is still open? Anyone know if they've begun interviews?

This position has been filled. EE emailed me the final word last night.
