Charles Montgomery - better known as Chuck Biscuits - passed away on October 24. Throat cancer.

Biscuits played drums for seminal California punk bands Black Flag and Circle Jerks [among others] before becoming the original drummer for Danzig. Biscuits also performed various drum tracks on Run D.M.C.'s Tougher Than Leather album. After leaving Danzig in the mid-90s he joined Social Distortion and played drums with them till he retired in 1999.

My older brother was a punker for several years. Black Flag and Circle Jerks music raged in the house often.

Now he would be a correct answer in either category if you play Dead or Canadian.

(First band was D.O.A., out of Vancouver.)

Black Flag were awesome. I preferred the Henry Rollins version myself.

Chuck also drummed on this classic track (well, maybe not classic but still awesome):

    No, it's a classic.

It's also the video that was playing during one of my favourite Beavis and Butthead lines: "The only thing cooler than a band that gets chicks is a band that scares chicks."

Now there's word circulating that Chuck may still be alive and that his death was a hoax. Hmm...I heard about it this afternoon and verified the info via these three stories:

    NME: http://www.nme.com/news/black-flag/48124

    NPR: http://www.npr.org/blogs/monitormix/2009/10/chuck_biscuits_19652009.html

    Entertainment Weekly: http://search.ew.com/EWSearch/ew/search/search.html?search=chuck+biscuits&x=0&y=0

The NPR link has an update stating that the death might be a hoax. EW has completely removed the obit they had on their site but a search of "Chuck Biscuits" shows that there was an obit. That's the page I've linked to above.

I have no idea why Chuck would fake his own death. I'm sure we'll have more details in the next 24 hours.

I guess Heaven didn't need a punk rock drummer after all.
