It looks like Mike Penner's byline is returning to the L.A. Times:

Well, another surprising turn. It probably happens more often than I think, but I didn't expect this "transformation" to be abandoned considering all the publicity that came out when it was announced.

Either way, I just hope Mike's at peace with himself whichever way he/she goes.

    Speechless.
Best of luck and love to one of the bravest people I know.

It'd be good if that one transgendered poster would come back by to explain more about this. One of those things it's about impossible to empathize with.

A pretty amazing story. Hope Mike has found peace.

I think this sort of thing is why reputable doctors insist that a patient live as a woman for a year before they'll actually perform surgery.

Switching teams again after 18 months? No big deal, in sports free agency.

Besides, this is a business in which Sam Zell has lived the past year-and-a-half as a scum-sucking pig and Dean Singleton has spent 30 years or so as a snake. Don't think we'll see them switching back to humanity anytime soon.

So did he ever have the operation?

I just hope that Mike (and Christine) finds the peace within themselves that they need.

When is Reilly going to write another piece praising he/she's decision?

Sports By Brooks suggests that playing the sex-change card might have been a crafty way of maintaining job security during a time of layoffs at a troubled business:

Awfully cynical. Then again, to keep my paycheck and health benefits in a horseshit economy, I might be willing to go by "Josephine" for a spell. :-*

More stupid than cynical. And it's pretty cynical.

Oh, and it's also completely wrong.

    yeesh.
