That's a fairly important similarity, no?

No sentient individual would argue that.

It's not the highest level of coaching, though. It's just not. It's not the best players. Or the most difficult schemes devised by the hardiest opponents.

    Coaches care because they're competitors.

Big time college football is not anywhere near Triple-A equivalent. The money at the major BCS schools is as good as it is in the NFL, which should be the first example as to why the minor league comparison is not valid.

    Dick's right.

College football can be "big time", but the NFL is the top level of football. It just is.

What you're saying is true, YF.

What Dick said is college football is, to a coach, the minor leagues. As Triple-A baseball is to a manager.

He turned down the Niners OC job and wound up coaching in the UFL that season.

I don't know what happened with him in Tampa, but whatever it was seems to have sent a promising coaching career into the shitter.

Larry Brown is in his sport's Hall of Fame, has won championships at the college and pro level, has coached in the Olympics and is still gainfully employed as a coach making pretty damned good coin at age 72.

A coach could surely do worse than becoming "the next Larry Brown."

Look, college football is still really cool. I like it a lot. I covered it for several seasons. I wrote a book about it. I watch it every Saturday.

But it's not the NFL. And that's OK.
