Chip Kelly Fired...

Chip Kelly thinks he reinvented football, and so long as he thinks that, he'd better be in a franchise/program who thinks the same thing of him.

He hates the public part of the job in college - boosters and fan functions and all that shit - so I doubt he goes back there, and if he did, I'd see him relocating down south, where he can recruit.

Successful NFL coaches know how to adapt. Kelly's refusal to do so will keep him from getting another NFL gig, IMO. He went from really good to pretty good to pretty bad in the span of three seasons. That trajectory is inevitable if you keep trying to do the same thing in the face of coaches and players who have figured you out.

Same reason Will Hunting chose the wrench.

How much of that was coaching and how much was getting control of personnel decisions, which he was spectacularly unqualified to take on? Matt Millen looks competent by comparison.

Well, yeah, not only did he not adapt, but he doubled down by trying to remake his roster at the expense of his most talented players. More hubris.

Yeah I don't know all the ins and outs but getting rid of McCoy AND DeSean is madness. I hate the Eagles and despise DeSean but that's ridiculous.

I don't think the Giants will fire Coughlin. The Maras (rightfully) love him and, like the Steelers, the Giants don't dump coaches very often. I could see them prodding him to either retire or to move to position upstairs within the organization, but I doubt they will outright can him.

Garrett's not going anywhere, either. Jerry loves him and this season's failure is easily blamed on injuries. Also, if the Cowboys plan to win with Romo, and I'm sure they do, changing head coaches (and, ostensibly, the OC) is not the best way to maximize a slightly past-his-prime QB's short window for success.

This is actually a great analogy. Both teams won a pair of titles in a relatively short span, but neither team ever approached "dynasty" status.

The Giants didn't win a playoff game between their 2007 and 2011 titles. The Marlins followed up one WS title with a 108-loss season and still have never won a division title.

Don't forget Jeremy Maclin. Philly's current receiver corps is a disaster of epic proportions. Or Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis, now starting for Denver.

Hey, what a coincidence -- three of the four guys mentioned here are starting for playoff teams.
