OK, I know this is highly unlikely, given Vick's wealth celebrity status, but what if he is found guilty of all the charges & has to spend SERIOUS jail time. Not the little bit Jamal Lewis did a couple of years ago, but YEARS in the clink? A few things to think about:

    • Will the Falcons be able to void Vick's contract and get back any money?
    • What will the Falcons do now that their franchise quarterback now has a role in the REAL Longest Yard? That Matt Schaub deal may come back to haunt Atlanta.
    • What kind of treatment would Vick get if he went to a real prison? Would the inmates actually give him special treatment, or will he have to grab his ankles like everyone else?

The dog-fighting culture is perverse and evil. That's obvious. Perhaps a court of law will ultimately determine that M. Vick was heavily associated with it. If so, he should be punished.
But haven't we journalists learned anything from the Duke lacrosse case? Can we demonstrate a bit of restraint here?
