Chicago Tribune no longer plays in Peoria

  1. I believe only home delivery is getting dumped downstate, not newsstand sales.

Then why stop printing in Champaign?

I've got a place in Door County WI, which is overrun by half of Chicago in the summer ... it's the only paper that sells out there on a regular basis

Been offline for a few days with gallbladder removal.

Big newspapers began shedding statewide "vanity" circulation in the 1980s. Not only is the cost of distribution too expensive, but advertisers don't want to pay to reach shoppers who live 200 miles from their stores. Not really sure this is a sign of much.

My experience is that when a big-city paper cuts the far-flung circulation, the paper is still available in decent-size towns, just not in racks. Convenience stores, etc., get them from news dealers rather than directly from the paper.
