The main appeal is being the #1 tenant and having all the prime dates & times available to them for their games.

DePaul willl be the main tenant at the McCormick Place Arena and has 1st choice for scheduling for their men's & women's basketball games. They also will practice there.

If they went to the UC, they would be way down low on the totem pole for scheduling. Also they couldn't hold practice at the United Center. Although Jerry Reinsdorf, at the last minute, offered them free use of the new Bulls practice facility that's scheduled to be built next to the UC.

DePaul will get back part of their $70 million commitment as they control the naming rights for the new arena. DePaul will receive 100% of the naming rights revenue if they can find a company or rich alum who's willing to pony up to have it named after him/her/them. Since Jack Greenberg, the McPier Chairman and a DePaul alum and a member of the DePaul Board of Trustees, is a former Chairman & CEO of McDonald's which is headquartered in the Chicago area. Don't be shocked if the new arena ends up being called the McDonald's Center.

I am not generally a fan of privatizations. But I think all convention centers, McCormick Place, should be privatized. And I think that Chicago should sell off a casino license next door to McCormick Center. That would revitalize the neighborhood. A mini-Vegas in the Midwest.
