Cheerleading is NOT a sport, so says University of Alabama

If the school bought the rings, it sounds like they could.

They aren't saying the athletic department decrees who can use the logo; the school does. So it seems to me if the science department wanted to buy a ring for some achievement, they could do it.

Te-hee. Alabama winning a science award. That is the hypothetical to end all hypotheticals.

Exactly...how sad would it be if having cheerleaders ended up taking out something real like the softball, volleyball or tennis team?

Whenever I get some cheer parent demanding coverage of their championships, I immediately refer them to our schools supporter explaining that cheer is an activity not a sport. That always goes over well. :)

That could come in handy, but I have to plead ignorance. What is a schools supporter?

    Baby Bear, at Alabama...

  7. Are you a journalist? Do you always make these kinds of assumptions?

I can tell you Alabama's chemistry department is very good and ranked 33rd of all U.S. colleges in 2009.

    Te-Hee.

And they work just as hard as the football team.

Did the cheerleaders wear uniforms with the script A on them? If they did, why would they then be prohibited from puting the A on the rings? No, it's not a sport, but this is just stupid.

So that's where Jimmy Johns acquired the expertise to cook up the really good shit he sold in the coaches' parking lot. Thanks, I had always wondered about that.

That is the point of the argument that pretty much wins it for me. And I am in the "not a sport" camp, by and large. But they do wear the script-A. So, um, yeah. Drop a couple Gs out of Saban's perks package and do right by this one.

Thirty-third isn't very good. Hell, Saban would get run't outta town for a 33rd finish.
