You are expecting an average media outlet to do some real reporting on a news story? Wishful thinking.

 

If the only picture I'd seen of her was the one on the right, I'd assume she was maybe a high school senior herself.

That said, age doesn't matter in Kansas, either. After an incident in this area, the legislature passed a law that made any sexual relationship between student and teacher illegal even if the student was already 18. They call it "abuse of authority."
