Don't rule out anything until Strong appears at a PC.

Well - Steve Patterson is involved, just ask ASU head coach June Jones.

Major Applewhite is the Mike Shula of Texas football. He's a former star quarterback, a young, good looking guy and a decent recruiter.

Trouble is, he can't coach for shit.

Also, it appears Briles balked when Texas wanted him to come in for an interview, rather than just offering him the job.

Hey, but Major's gone a few years now without getting caught having an "inappropriate relationship" with a student. That's got to count for something, right?

That sort of makes sense for Briles. His resume really does speak for itself and, as someone alluded to before, an interview with Texas might turn out to be nothing more than sitting down with the biggest threat to his success at Baylor and saying "Here ya go, here's how it's done."

Strong has now apparently told Louisville staffers he hasn't made up his mind yet.

This guy really needs to learn to shit or get off the pot. He did the same dance with Tennessee last year (though he ended up getting a big raise out of it).

If he waits a year and Muschamp has another crap year at Florida, Strong's a shoo-in for that job, isn't he? If he wants Florida more than Texas, comes down to whether he takes the sure thing now or stays where he's content for a year and hopes Muschamp fails. He spent more time at Florida than anywhere else in his coaching career, so I could see him wanting that job.

Texas needs someone with either A. National Championships, B. Something to get boosters and fans excited.

Strong has neither. Saban has both.

If it has to be a Saban-level hire, Texas might as well shut down the program because there's only one Saban. But I don't understand why Texas people wouldn't get excited about Strong. If he is good at Louisville he ought to be great at Texas.

Strong's a great hire, IMHO. I thought Florida screwed up passing on him for Muschamp. I wouldn't worry about the media stuff -- like others have said, they'll just work around it and his agent will make sure his contract keeps it to what he's comfortable with.

So does anyone know if Briles and Mora really passed on the job, or was their pulling out their names just the usual coaches getting ahead of the story when the school decides on someone else?

Louisville football has zero expectations when compared to Texas.

Do Louisville people get borderline suicidal if they lose their rivalry game to Kentucky, like Texas people do if they lose to OU?

Don't know about Mora, but as I noted above, Briles supposedly balked when they wanted him to come in for an interview, rather than just offering him the job.

If you made a list of the 25 greatest college football coaches of the last 50 years, how many were "big splash" hires at the job that made their name?
