A Kitchener man, whose body was found Sunday in a cottage near Bayfield, died of a freak accident, provincial police say.

Bob Schneider, 54, had been using a hammock tied to a tree with a rotten base when the trunk broke and the tree struck him in the head, OPP said.

Schneider, owner of a martial arts academy in Kitchener, managed to get inside the cottage, where he died of his injuries, police said.

At first, the OPP were probing the death as "suspicious."

But following an investigation and autopsy yesterday in London, police concluded the death was accidental.

He died of blunt force to the head, police said.
