Oh yuck. Yuck yuck yuck. Joe Francis is primordial scum. Even without pressing charges, Claire Hoffman's account and reporting is damning enough.

  2. The guy is scum and Claire Hoffman wrote a good story, but the real question:
    Is she cute?

"Claire Hoffman covers Hollywood and the adult entertainment industry for The Times."

I have to admit I didn't know that "adult entertainment" was a Times beat.

Hey, it's big bidness there. So why not cover it? (I presume it's more as a business, and not "Guess who Jenna Jameson sucks off in her next flick?")

That reminds me, the best "Better Know a District," by far, on "The Colbert Report" was with the guy who represents the San Fernando Valley. It started with the rep denying there was a porn industry there, and just kept getting better, culminating with a guy walking in to deliver a pizza and Colbert haltingly saying: "Um... I... didn't... order... a... pizza," before the music kicks in. Unfortunately, I can't find it on YouTube.

Yeah, I remember reading somewhere that it was a business beat over there. That's gotta be an odd beat to cover...if you're a woman, you probably have creeps coming on to you all day long; if you're a man, your buddies are probably sweating you to hook 'em up with porno actresses. Plus, you know people make lame jokes about the job...and your parents are probably slightly embarrassed about reading your copy.

Unless they can prove the GGW crew provided the alcohol and or drugs, I can't see that defense working......getting drunk and doing something stupid is one's own fault. And in no way am I saying I approve with this dirtbag and GGW....he seems like a total ass, and deserves all the bad things coming his way in the near future.

Yeah, I can see him getting shot outside a courthouse and ending up in a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down.

If Larry Flynt was the shooter, would that be ironic?

A ethics guy said this story should have been spiked.

From Clay Risen..."Hoffman’s editor should have scratched her article, on the grounds that she was too compromised to give Francis an objective treatment. ... It’s an awkward solution, and it dilutes much of the force from the Hoffman’s moving piece. But it satisfies the ethical obligations of journalism, which is ultimately what matters.

    Clay Risen sucks.

He raises a fair point, but by his criteria, we'd almost have to do away with the sports section if abuse from a subject is grounds for not running a story.

I can see the point the ethics guy raises....but if the reporter is a pro and the editors are careful, it shouldn't be a problem. And the whole incident adds to the story.
