The problem with that is scoring, like officiating, is an inexact science. You can only introduce so much objectivity to what is often SUBJECTIVE.

Sometimes, officials and official scorers get calls wrong. Sometimes they get 'em right. But sometimes, those calls are not cut-and-dried the ball was fair by a country mile calls. Sometimes, it's a bang-bang play. Or in Sabathia's case, a lope-bang play.

If he fields the ball, either with the glove or with the bare hand, there is no question he throws LaRoche out. Or are some idiots out there of the mind that Sabathia doesn't have a good arm?

Not gonna happen. The Pirates hired the scorer, not MLB.
The guy has been scoring for 20 years. I think he's got some cred.

I'll be honest ... all I care is that the Brewers are 5 1/2 up in the Wild Card. A no-hitter is just gravy. Won't get my panties in a bunch if it's reversed or not.

You could be right. The Brewers still play four in Philly. The Wild Card ain't over yet. I was actually rooting for the Cubs this weekend to knock the Phillies out of the box.

The Phillies are gonna win the NL East and the Brewres are gonna be the wild card team.

But it has to be that scorer.

    All he was saying.

    And he's right.

Re: CC Sabathia: no-no or no?

Earlier this season the Brewers appealed an official scorer's decision to MLB and won. On the play, Rickie Weeks fielded a grounder and threw to Prince Fielder at first. Fielder simply dropped the ball, which was in time to get the runner. The official scorer (in Houston) ruled a hit. The Brewers appealed and sent replays to MLB officials. A week later, the play was ruled E3, and two earned runs came off Guillermo Mota's record.

But to get a no-hitter this way will not be like pitching a no-hitter. The thrill of the no-hitter is getting the last three outs in real time, not getting it via an official scoring change days later.

If MLB does over rule, it's not like AP will be sending out 'No-hitter alerts" and papers will be putting the game story on their sports cover.

Let's correct the Ronnie Lott interference call at RFK in 1984 the Renfro non-catch at Three Rivers before even talking about this folly.

Clearly erroneous scoring if a throw was made, was on line, and merely dropped by the first baseman.

No throw made today; no idea if Sabathia would have thrown him out or not. Pure judgment.
MLB will do nothing, nor should they.

Re: CC Sabathia: no-no or no?

If he fields it, he throws him out. Absolutely no doubt. The play, in case all don't know, came on a check-swing, and LaRoche did not get out of the box very fast. The replay from the third-base camera box clearly shows that Sabathia muffs the play while LaRoche is no more than halfway to the base. If he fields it, it's an out. And it wasn't a tricky hop or anything like that.

Or, again, are you saying Sabathia doesn't have the arm to make that throw?
