    Stay classy, Kobe.

Incident, real outrage, ESPNization, fake outrage, snark, statement, forgotten about. And all this within 12 hours. The life of a controversy like this in today's world.

This is great. Kobe can violently rape a woman, but people will end up being more upset about this.

You overestimate the openmindedness of the sports-watching public. There will be vocal protests of this by activists, columnists and talking heads, and that might make it seem like a huge deal. But the general public will care very little.

You're probably right. And, I don't mean to diminish what Kobe said. It's vile & there's no excuse for it.

But, on the list of reasons to dislike Kobe, it hasn't beaten the leader in the clubhouse.

    I don't think anyone cares.

    The non-apology apology:

Bryant issued a statement Wednesday afternoon.

"What I said last night should not be taken literally," he said. "My actions were out of frustration during the heat of the game, period. The words expressed do NOT reflect my feelings towards the gay and lesbian communities and were NOT meant to offend anyone."

He should have just said it was not intended to be a factual statement.

Seems to me, his words were meant to offend at least one person — the ref.
