Bernie M. has had a loong day to cap off what must have, for him, have been an emotionally draining week.

If he's in town Thursday, I'd like to shake his hand.

The headline for Bernie's column on Saturday night after the Cardinals lost 8-1:

Face it, Cardinals fans, We're in for a rough ride

RIP to a guy who had his whole life ahead of him, fortunately he didn't take anyone else with him.

Hancock played minor league ball in Trenton for parts of two seasons and its interesting the different approaches the two Trenton papers took.

The Trentonian went with the AP story, just adding that he played with the Thunder and did a sidebar on some of the Philadelphia Phillies remembering him, since he played there for two years

The Times (aka Trenton Times) just had one story, borrowing some info on the accident from the AP story, but putting the focus on his time with the Trenton Thunder:

    Update to this story ...

One of the TV stations in St. Louis is reporting that Hancock was involved in a traffic accident on Thursday morning, around 5:30, in an area known for strip clubs and bars.

Thursday was the day Hancock was late for the Cardinals day game and had teammates worried. Also, outfielder Chris Duncan arrived late for that game after getting stitches for a cut on his head. Duncan explained the injury then by saying he jumped down some stairs at his apartment building and hit his head.

The SUV Hancock was driving on Saturday night appeared to be a rental.

I don't intend to minimize the tragedy that this is, but does anybody doubt that when all the facts come out we will find that Hancock was, indeed, driving drunk?

Just heard on the broadcast that Hancock was offered a cab ride by the restaurant he was at Saturday night and he declined.
