Our webmonkey says putting datelines on all stories improves hits.

How's the Boston Pizza in Swifty? I know a guy who lives there, says it's the happenin' spot in town.

    Classy.

So they think it's in Oregon even though it's in Washington?

Now that we're on the subject...

Suppose you drive an hour or so to grab quotes for a feature. You come back and a week later, write the feature. Dateline?

Sure. Is the feature based in the place where you got the quotes? If it is, use that place as the dateline.

I mean no disrespect, but I have to vent: When working journalists and editors don't know the function of a fucking dateline -- and slap one on there just because they feel like it, when that's misleading at best and morally bankrupt at worst -- it doesn't say a whole lot for the state of the profession.

Like, holy crap. I'm putting my bucket down. Someone else bail for a while.

I'm not a journalist and even I know the rule about datelines.

Jesus, don't they teach that in the first week of the first year of j-school?

    That's sad.

I don't log a lot of time in Swift and I'm way too old to worry about happening. :)

We've had discussions about "Special to" situations with datelines, and bylines without, but if you're in Kentucky, and the story is in Hamilton, and your name is on it, I'm certainly with Jones...
