    Canoe Inc. (canoe.ca) is currently looking for a Senior Sports Editor to work in our downtown Toronto, Ontario office.

    Canoe Inc. (a Quebecor Media company) has developed into Canada's leading content provider since launching on March 4, 1996. Staffed around the clock, Canoe provides news and information, including photos and data from Canada and around the world.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Directing and supervising online editorial staff, including administrative duties such as timesheets, vacation, assignments, training etc.

    • Creating and delivering an online strategy that will drive user engagement and traffic to our Sports property.

    • Generating story and package ideas for their respective channels

    • Creating special sections that highlight a variety of contextual elements, including photo galleries, forums, polls and video.

    • Developing and maintaining an editorial strategy for the channel and critically evaluating the competition and our own site to ensure Canoe.ca is offering the most compelling online sports experience available on the Web.

    • Act as the key editorial contact for content partners and resources both internally and externally.

    • Tracking and analyzing traffic data to identify programming successes and trends and use that information to guide editorial decisions

    • Monitoring industry trends and innovations and be prepared to adapt new technologies to the assigned channel.

    • Working with other channel editors and product/project managers to co-ordinate special initiatives that have cross-brand editorial elements.

    • Establishing channel promotional needs and helping to co-ordinate promotional strategies.

    • Writing compelling headlines, photo captions and leads designed to draw our audience into the site.

    • Rewriting wire and Sun Media copy when applicable to fit web format.

    • Updating polls, develop and monitor forums.

    • Working with other editors to ensure writing styles meet accepted standards.

    • Recommending training seminars that will help enhance the web skills of an online editorial team.

    • Attending regular story meetings and pitching content ideas that will make it to the Canoe.ca homepage.
