Ok, this idiocy is right up there with, oh, I don't know, Toronto City Council banning a perfomance by the Barenaked Ladies in 1991 because the mayor at the time found the band name to be offensive.

Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" can no longer be played on Canadian airwaves because of the use of the word "faggot"

Other than the song is 25 years old, who listens to a station that would still play this song?

And there will be debates about it on CBC for the next three days. :)

I seem to recall in the mid-1980s, they played a shorter version of "Money for Nothing" without the offending verse.

Maybe that "single" version of the song isn't available in this age of digital radio station programming.

Death of an American president, the 2006 "mocumentary" about the assassination of George W. Bush premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

I'm guessing that didn't rile as many feathers as Money for Nothing or Bare Naked Ladies.

Well, from some of the reviews I read, it should have been banned because it was a crappy movie.

I'll always remember doing a doubletake while watching an NFL game when I heard Pat Summerall announce, "And coming up at halftime, will be a performance, by Barenaked Ladies.:

Black '47's Livin in America contains this line:

see him standing there with the ring in his ear
and the grin on the side of his face
with the fag in his mouth, oh i should watch out
cos they say that he's a real hard case
should I take me chance or say "no thanks"
ah what the hell, nothin' ventured nothin' gained
oh mammy dear, we're all mad over here
    livin' in america

I suppose that would be banned too.
