A great argument against using “name recognition” as the sole reason to vote for a candidate.

In an alphabet run of adjectives to describe Trudeau the ‘V’ slot would contain vapid and vacuous.

Trudeau's press conferences are nothing like the gongshows Trump's are but this seemed really managed to me; his people had to know there would be a question about this and it seemed really staged how he stared at the camera that long, almost like a clock and not an answer was running through his head

Question from someone who isn't all that familiar with Canadian politics. If Trudeau is that much of an empty suit, how is he a two-term prime minister? Did the other parties run tomato cans each time?

This term he has a minority government and is being propped up by, in essence, a socialist party NDP, and a separatist leaning party from Quebec. The left leaning younger folks and unions voted this way. Conservatives had a weak leader who will be replaced in the next few months and are being viewed as stodgy out of touch Boomers because they aren’t looking at their phones constantly and believe money doesn’t grow on trees. A large swath of Canada west of Toronto is conservative leaning and voting but the big eastern cities vote Liberal.
    I live in Western Canada.

Hey, is 'six-toe Mike Harris' still in the game up there?

I think Americans tend to see Canadian politics through a rosy filter. Like Trooperbari, my understanding is limited.

The election generally comes down to who can hold the Golden Horseshoe of votes around heavily populated Southern Ontario.

The Conservatives ran an out of touch career politician who panders to social conservatives. A decent forward thinking conservative would have pounded Trudeau last election.

Ah. Thanks for the explanations, folks. I was mildly annoyed with myself for skipping a meet-and-greet with Trudeau when he came through Singapore a while back, but perhaps it was for the best. IR Theory class was probably a better use of my time.

I live just outside Toronto in a region that is very important to the Liberals. Trudeau spent more time in my riding than I did.
