It is a paid position with decent benefits. Maybe we should also start honoring
high risk hedge fund traders also. They rarely get respect.

I could also live with Major League Baseball not turning up the sap-meter to 10 on "God Bless America" in the seventh in the playoffs.

I don't agree with the premise but I will say the knee-jerked "Thank you for your service" (usually mumbled or typed with eight ensuing exclamation points) makes me cringe. It usually seems like some liturgical response rather than something sincerely proffered. No one did it when I was a kid, teen or young man.

I could certainly live with the NFL not re-tweeting half the people who say "thank you to veterans" on Twitter.

Always tickles me when I hear people thank military recruiters sitting at a desk
    at a suburban mall.

I get what you guys are saying, but I thought this was a pretty good piece from the other side:

My son was a marine (I guess he's always a marine). He hated to hear that "thank you for your service" stuff from strangers at the airport.

    Why would he hate that?

If it's an issue of being shy, I get that, but I don't think people feel obligated to come say that. I think they're just showing that they respect the job that you do.

I feel like TYFYS has becomes as ubiquitous as "Have a good day" or "How's your day going"? It's become a throw away line for people who don't like silence.
