A good effort by Chestnut. But, well...it's Kobayashi!

    Damn.

    Kobayashi downs 54 hot dogs.

Joey Chestnut manages 52. Has looked like he was ready to puke for five minutes.

I liked the little Japanese lady's interview before the contest:

"I just want to swallow as much as I can."

My thing for Kobayashi takes a severe hit when he goes with the orange hair.

So, let's see .... The Total Sports Network can present us this irrelevant bullshit on Independence Day, but it can't be bothered to show its longtime July 4 staple --- Major League Baseball.

Somewhere, there's a group of ESPN managers who need to be repeatedly ass-raped with a 10-foot 2x4.

And where, pray tell, was Ed "Cookie" Jarvis?

Eric "Badlands" Booker was on "Quite Frankly" with Mr. "Howeva" Stephen A. Smith on Monday night, and he downed nine dogs in three minutes or so.

Natalie Allen of MSNBC just did an interview with a nutritionist, who was a pretty good sport and told folks "not to try this at home."

The enthusiasm of the faces in the crowd is quite interesting.

Nathan's dogs are OK, but Hebrew National's are in a class by themselves.

Somehow I still think I'll pass. For a while.

Great showing today by Chestnut - 52 dogs. Even though Kobayashi won (congrats to him), Joey's performance today is further proof that American competitive eating is in good hands for the future. Of course I can't help but be a little disappointed, but Chestnut is the future of this great sport.

I'm expecting an American champion next independence day!
