What does "hit the net like any Negro would" mean exactly?? I'm "Negro" and this is a new one on me...

    http://www.nypost.com/seven/03272007/sports/heckler_targets_serena_sports_.htm

March 27, 2007 -- KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) - Serena Williams says a heckler bothered her throughout her match yesterday at the Sony Ericsson Open, making at least one racist remark before he was finally ejected.

"The guy said, 'Hit the net like any Negro would.' I was shocked," Williams said. "I couldn't believe it. I had to do a double take. I think I hit a double fault on that point."

Williams, who won the third-round match against Lucie Safarova, 6-3, 6-4, complained late in the match to the chair umpire about the heckler.

"I shouldn't have let it bother me," Williams said. "I guess that's what my dad prepared me for, but I'm not going to stand for it."

Fans and security confirmed a man heckled Williams inappropriately, said tournament director Adam Barrett, who added "the man was identified and escorted off the site."

Maybe it's a reference to basketball. Either way, stupid comment from a stupid person. Can't stand such racial intolerance.

It's impossible to explain the ramblings of an idiot. That was sad. And, no, I can't explain it.

I think the dummy was just wanting her to double fault and hit the ball into the net. In his racist rant attributed the (perceived, hoped for?) lack of ability to hit the ball over the net to her race.

So it made no sense, but she took offense?

For me, anytime the word "Negro" is used, it's offensive.
Unless it's another black person saying it in jest (re: "Negro, please!"). It's like the whole nigga/nigger thing. Personally, I hate the word at any time, but if another black person says nigga, it's wildly different than a white person saying nigger.

    It gets better!

According to the Miami Herald, which offered a more extensive story on what happened, Serena cleaned up the language and the piece of shit actually called her a nigger.

Still not sure what the comment means though...

Maybe he's confusing black people with dolphins?

That statement - and it's airing in public - is just appaling. It's not even about the meaning, it's about social mores.

  10. I can't beleive that someone would even have the stones to yell that kind of racial slur in a such a public forum.
