It sounds like a faulty conveyer belt. It was calibrated too fast if a liter of soda was careening down. You are lucky you or the baby were not hurt.
I blame the store for putting you in this unfortunate situation.

You should consider suing the store. I would start by asking for the repair records on that belt.

 

The belt at this place stops if items get backed up, or if there's an imaginary item on the belt that the sensor thinks you didn't scan. But that's about it.

 

That's sound advice, Boom. I'm also going to ask for the shipping and receiving records on that soda bottle, along with a background check on each person who handled it. I think it may have been weaponized.

 

And ugly America rears its ugly head. That's what we need...more litigation!
