Yes and no. I've had some elite female athletes tell me that, having given birth, their concept of "pain" and what they could endure, especially in training, was forever changed.

Valerie Lafon Gotay is a 34-year-old mother of two girls. She will compete in the Olympics in Beijing in judo 16 years after first qualifying for the Olympics at 18.

I guess we'll see this winter how Sarah Schleper, three-time skiing Olympian, handles becoming a mother.

Oh yeah ... a gal named Fanny Blankers-Koen won four medals at the 1948 Olympics, becoming the first mother to compete at the Olympics. She was mother of two ... and pregnant at the Olympics.

I didn't see very many at all who qualified as answering my question... as having performed better afterward. And, team sports get tossed out. Can't prove anything there.
