I'm getting ready to take a position at a start-up weekly, and I'm looking for examples of some top-notch, award-winning weeklies across the country. That way, I can look at them to see what works. Thanks.

Can anyone refer me to some of the best tabloid-sized newspapers? I didn't mean tabloids like the New York Post or National Enquirer. I have never designed anything but broadsheet. So, I need some ideas. Thanks again.

  4. The Rocky Mountain News is a tabloid?

The Hungry Horse News won a Pultizer :D

The Big Fork, Mont., paper is a really good weekly, wins tons of awards.

That's what I've got from my neck of the woods.

  6. Doc, is your new gig going to be an alternative weekly or community news?

If you're looking for good community weeklies, the Suburban Newspapers of America announced their annual contest winners not long ago. Go to suburban-news.org. I don't think they have links to the winning stories/sections, but at least you can get names of some papers and Google them. Newslink.org has links to non-daily papers by state too.

The National. Van McKenzie and Rick Jaffe.
Not a weekly, but you get the point.

Shelby County (Ala.) Reporter used to be good when Leada DeVaney was there. She's been gone a while, and so have I, so I don't know if it's still good.

    It's big, at least.
