Can anyone convince me that the 1970s were not the greatest decade for music?

When you think about how much of the music is standing the test of time and the different layers and styles of music, I cannot call one decade better. In fact, it might not even be close.

You have great rock and roll with people who can just play the shit out of their instruments...
    Boz Scaggs

    Bruce

You have great r&b which is leading the way to disco...
    Stevie Wonder

    EW and F

You have great singer songwriters in their prime...
    Elton John

    Billy Joel

    You have hard rock...
    Led

    Who

    Southern rock...
    Allman Bros.

    Skynard

And I am not even mentioning Steely Dan, the Stones, Beatles...

I cannot think of another era, where all the shit that was going on can stand the test of time so well, that can compare.

    Thoughts?

    Totally agree.

And you didn't even mention American punk (Ramones), British Punk (Clash, The Jam, Sex Pistols), New Wave (Elvis Costello, Television, etc.) Glam Rock (T-Rex, Queen, etc.) and the 3,476 genres David Bowie experimented with in the decade.

The best part? So much of it still holds up today.

The best band of the decade has yet to be mentioned.

True, the Grateful Dead did put out a lot of great music in the 70s.
