Can anybody please explain the love for FrankTV?

I prefer the original British version of FrankTV. [/snobby SportsJournalists.com poster]

He's the poor man's Carvey and I still consider that a huge compliment.

He's a talented mimic, but once you've absorbed that, it gets old, really fast.

I saw him at a casino 2 months ago and even though I've heard all his routines on XM Comedy, I still laughed out loud.
After the show, he said he would pose for pictures and sign autographs --- even if you didn't buy any of his CDs or T-shirts. (BTW, he charges $20 for a DVD/3 CD set, to me a good deal).
That said, the show isn't as good as his stand up.
If impressionists could carry their own shows, we would have had Rich TV 30 years ago.

Does anyone remember "The Dana Carvey Show" I think it lasted three weeks in 1996.

Didn't he have a different sponsor every week?

I seem to remember one week it was the Dana Carvey Show presented by Pepsi...then the next week it was the Dana Carvey Show presented by Taco Bell.

He does some great impressions. Madden is his signature one, and he really nailed the GWB smirk and squint, too. Caliendo reminds me a bit of David Frye, who was big in the late '60s, in that he really seems to channel the person, unlike Rich Little.

That said, impressions are a great six-minute spot on a talk show, but it's hard to make a long-form TV program out of them. There are some things that don't translate well to the structure of a TV show. Rickles was always insanely funny on his Carson spots, but he had about three sitcom series that all died. TV could never quite turn Jonathan Winters' weirdness into something marketable, either.

Hey, I think I still have one of those "Football Follies" tapes, with Jonathan Winters as host, somewhere in my mom's basement. :D

Well-said. Caliendo is best suited for being a talk-show guest.
