That was the posting equivalent of a seven-streamer.

The phrase that got snubbed for post of the year -- and I've had some 2006 candidates of late, too -- was eight-streamer, not seven-streamer.

Yoda was the greatest Jedi of them all. Now, back to the thread.

I'm not a 'Star Wars' geek, although I did have a bunch of 'Star Wars' toys when I was a kid.
Here's my theory on Lucas and the tale of the original nine-episodes idea:
Lucas liked the idea of of making a feature-length space opera that would be an homage to movie serials suchs as Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers.
The idea behind 'Star Wars' was that it would be self-contained yet episodic at the same time. To highlight this, he provided the text intro, typical of many old movie serials, and labeled it Epsiode 4.
To make it work, he very, very loosely constructed a larger story outline around the so-called Episode 4.
After the crazy popularity of 'Star Wars,' Lucas talked about the larger story as a nine-episode project as if it were already established when really it was just a concept.

Coming in late, but I too heard the stories of the nine-episode saga.

As to the Clones-Menace-New Hope argument...
It will always be New Hope, Sith, Clones Menace.

I'm sorry, but Hayden Christianson (sic) is just a bad actor that ruined those movies for me, and I love the "Holy Trilogy"

Also, I refuse to refer to 'Star Wars' as 'A New Hope.'
    It's 'Star Wars.'

Three novels, all by Timothy Zahn: Heir To The Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. Available at good bookstores everywhere.
